Why is reformer Pilates so popular?

Reformer Pilates has skyrocketed in popularity for a million reasons, but I’ll try and summarise without keeping you here all day.

Springs! You’ll soon discover why they’re so incredibly beneficial. They allow you to work with resistance, and it’s this which allows you to challenge yourself further as well as provide more support. The springs also give you invaluable feedback for body awareness and you’ll know if you’re doing something incorrectly sooner than if you were just doing Mat Pilates.

You’ll also be able to enjoy deeper stretches with a greater range of movement, thus achieving increased flexibility and joint mobility.

The reformer will help you achieve better focus as you have to concentrate fully on the movement and how to control the carriage, springs and ropes. This may sound terrifying and I admit that at first glance the reformer can be quite intimidating and scary.

But rest assured, within minutes you’ll be at ease, relaxed, focused and working your body like you’ve never done before. As well as being instantly hooked of course!

The mental gains from all of the above are also a huge part of the attraction. There’s nothing quite like the post-reformer class feeling. You can expect to be bursting with endorphins, feeling longer, more body aware, focused and relaxed yet physically challenged and stronger.

There are no limits to reformer Pilates. The stronger you get and the more control and coordination you gain, the more the reformer can challenge you. Trust me, you’ll never be bored or feel “it’s not enough”.

I’m totally unfit, can I do reformer Pilates?

Yes, absolutely! Reformer Pilates is suitable for all fitness levels, and we’re here to help you every step of the way. Our expert-led classes, personalised support and welcoming environment make it easy for beginners to get started and feel comfortable.

However, if you have a specific injury or ongoing condition, we strongly recommend booking a 1:1 session or arranging a call before joining a class. This allows us to assess your situation, discuss any medical history and create a plan that supports your recovery and strengthens your body safely.

What do I need to wear?

For a Pilates reformer class, comfort and mobility are absolutely key.

Comfy workout wear but ideally nothing too majorly loose fitting, as it makes it very tricky for us to check your alignment and correct you.

It's not essential but it would be ideal if you could purchase some grip socks. We’ll soon be stocking customised socks with our own branding on, but you can also pick them up super cheaply on Amazon and certainly don't need to spend a fortune as they all do the same thing. The grips help keep your feet stable and prevent slipping, especially during exercise with a lot of foot pressure or standing work.

Bring a water bottle, even for a low-impact workout like Pilates you'll still get thirsty and want to stay hydrated.

You don't need a mat or to bring a towel etc, the reformers are wiped down and cleaned after every session.

It's a good idea to tie or clip your hair back out of your face while you're moving through the exercises. There are springs, pulleys and a headrest so you definitely don't want to lose clumps of hair in those.

Where do I Park?

There is some parking available at Clarence House where the studio is located, but this is on a first come, first served basis and is limited. I would always make sure you allow time to check there and then park in nearby streets or the two nearby car parks. These are St Erbyn’s (directly behind Clarence House) and Clarence Street, which is a 2-minute walk from the studio.

How do I book a Pilates class?

You can book online on our booking page, or contact us directly via email at katespilates@hotmail.com

When are the classes?

All information on the class schedule are found on the specific timetable page on the website and on the booking page.

Do I need to make a booking or can I drop in?

Our classes are in high demand and with our small session sizes, places fill up quickly. To secure your preferred class each week, we recommend purchasing one of our packages in advance:

5 and 6-week packages: Must be used within their respective time frames.

10 and 12-class packages: Designed for those of you who want to attend two classes per week are to be used within a 5 or 6-week period.

As long as you provide 24 hours notice then you can cancel or reschedule any booked class.

For more flexibility, we do offer drop-in classes. These are perfect if you can’t commit to a set schedule or want to add extra sessions without purchasing another package.

Let us know if you have any questions and we’ll be happy to help.

What is your cancellation policy?

Due to high demand and limited spaces (6 per class), we require at least 24 hours' notice for cancellations or rescheduling. If you provide the required notice, you can either reschedule your session or receive a credit on your account to use for a future class.

Unfortunately, cancellations made within 24 hours of the class will not be eligible for a refund or credit. This policy helps us ensure fairness for all of our clients and allows us to offer places to those on the waiting list.
